Welcome to my professional profile section.

Here is a list of talks I can do:

Augmented Reality in Education –

This presentation not only explored the use of augmented reality, but used a range of technology to engage the audience before, during and after the presentation. Please see https://abasiel.wordpress.com/augmentedreality/  where an online forum explored the question of ‘virtual knowledge’ that fueled a debate on eLearning design and finished with the use of mobile phones to find extended activities using a QR code.

Blended learning groups-
This small group discussion model explores how a problem can be explored face to face and online. A physics example is put forward to small groups in the workshop. Next they follow a one-minute protocol to come to a conclusion which is shared online. Finally, after analysing the other team’s contributions they must decide to stay with their answer or switch to another team’s solution. Always good fun and interactivity.

Online rich pictures –
Rich Pictures are a mind mapping technique used in Soft Systems Methodology.  This workshop explores an online toolkit that uses a range of protocols helping the learner to identify the key elements of the situation being explored. Next the components are prioritised and ranked to establish importance. These factors can then be compared to other participants to reinforce the cross referencing.

Virtual Learning Environment Toolkit –
Is your organisation moving from a paper-based correspondence model to using eLearning systems and tools? If yes, this talk is perfect for you so you can analyse your online content, communication, file management and media to get the right recipe for your learning and teaching. The VLE Toolkit profiles your needs to create a snap-shot of your online curriculum design needs.

Web video conferencing: webcast and webinar designs –
What makes a successful webcast or web video conference eLearning event? Participants will be able to collaborate to identify what works and what flops when you use web video for different educational situations such as initial student interviews, online tutorials, project supervision, assessment boards, staff evaluations or appraisals.

Dare to share –
This hands-on workshop turns staff development upside-down. Rather than top-down instruction we give participants an opportunity to generate their own web video content which they can use in the workplace. The creators become the champions and evangelists to promote the skill / knowledge to solve a workplace problem or situation. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtVYkEdGtfo Lights – Camera – Action!

Dr. Anthony Basiel – Professional Profile

Clifton Strengths: Learner, Communication, Connectedness, Ideation and Input

Leading a small team, work in close collaboration with colleagues in Academic Services to support and deliver the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy-
I have a wide range of leadership experience. Before I became involved in eLearning I was a sports centre manager for Olympic Gymnastics for 20 years in America. In Summer 1995-99 I was Head Teacher and ICT Director at Embassy Study Tours UK, a summer English language camp .

Recently my role as Sr. Post Graduate Programme Leader has me co-ordinating the Work Based Learning curriculum and virtual learning environment at Middlesex University. I am working with our Director of Programmes and Academic / Administration staff to provide a distance learning Post Graduate Degree Programme for our work based learners across the UK and our international offices (e.g. Hong Kong, Cyprus, etc.). A sample of the Excel file I have designed and developed to help co-ordinate our annual programme is in Google Docs at:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ApKEPSFKjo5OdDk2NldQajB5X0tfXzlDMHlvd1o3eUE&hl=en

In terms of eLearning strategy I have been influential in our Centre for Excellence for Work Based Learning ICT strategy.  Additionally, I helped contribute to the HEFCE bid to get the Centre for Excellence status.

Provide leadership on matters relating to e-learning –
Ten years ago I was brought into Work Based Learning to help them move from a paper-based model to an eLearning strategy. I lead on many eLearning project bids within the university as well as with UK and EC funding. One of the best examples is a FP7 bid we put in for Technology Enhanced Learning.
Another example is the eLearning workshops and resources I have made to help academic staff to produce their own materials for our virtual learning environment

Production of interactive educational materials –
I have been involved with the research, development, implementation and evaluation of several models of new media eLearning designs for educational materials. One sample is the interactive Professional Doctorate Seminar Series where we held the face-to-face session and made digital video recordings using the PAP (Pre-At-Post) design.
Live webinars or webcasts was another project that we have been innovating. We invite successful Doctorate students to come in and tell their stories to the web / phone conference audience as well as digitally recording the event. The web video clips make great video case study testimonials for eLearning and eMarketing purposes.
Development and enhancement of the ICR’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) –
Middlesex University uses the commercial Blackboard VLE. This Web 1.0 (content-driven) design meets some of our needs. I have complimented this system with two other platforms:

a) Flash Communication Server – Adobe Connect web video conferencing
As an Adobe International Education Leader I am able to use the Adobe Europe Server for free. I also get to Beta test all of their products and resources.
(See a free sample at: http://acrobat.com )

b) Elgg Professional Social Network – I have worked with Emerald Publishing to pilot their Emerald InTouch system.
Produce the ICR annual report and the joint research report of the ICR and Royal Marsden Hospital –

In my capacity as Sr. Post Graduate Programme Leader I am responsible to inform our part of the annual report. Additionally, I have contributed to the eLearning and ICT objectives and contributions made to the Centre for Excellence. I have also been responsible for writing the final report for many eLearning R & D projects. Perhaps the most powerful project was with the British Council and Gaza University. We were recognised by the Higher Education Academy as eTutor’s of the Year in 2004 for this accomplishment.
(See: http://www.hero.ac.uk/ ).

Applicants should be educated to degree level

I have several Higher Education degrees that support my application:

Demonstrate an aptitude for pro-active project management –

Perhaps the best example of pro-active project management was related to the British Council project I mentioned earlier. We needed to do web video conferencing to do an eLearning workshop with Gaza as the university did not allow us to go in person due to risk assessment. We were the first HEI to get a Flash Communication server set up in the UK back in 2004. We did this by forming the ‘Breeze Consortium’ (Macromedia Breeze now called Adobe Connect) which was a collection of eLearning champions throughout the university that contributed a few thousand pounds each to help us set up the server and purchase the software licence. This ‘bottom-up’ strategy was successful.

Excellent writing, proof-reading and editing skills –

I have over ten years of publication activity in eLearning ranging from magazine articles
for an Italian Conference that I was key note speaker,
(See – www.bdp.it/content/index.php?action=read&id=346 )
to book chapters (‘Micro Learning – Didactics of Microlearning: Concepts, Discourses and examples’, Chapter 5- Waxman ISBN: 978-3-8309-1869-1) and Journal articles

I have also written book reviews for ESCalate and I have worked on an ad hoc basis for NIIT (a company in India writing university courses for America with Wiley Press) as a subject matter expert in New Media and Graphic Design.

Ability to understand, interpret and explain complex information to a variety of audiences-

I have two eLearning consulting experiences with Museums that address this issue. First, I was asked by the V & A museum (1999) to help with an electronic exhibition. My role was to act as mediator between the museum docents and the multimedia programmers hired to do the display. Another case was the Natural History Museum (2008)
where I was asked to conduct workshops on using Web 2.0 communication to support the museum academics.

Can I simply just say what a relief to uncover someone that really understands what they are
